Tennant to take over the Tardis:
The new Doctor Who has been officially named as David Tennant, the star of BBC period drama Casanova.
Mainly for my brother’s and John Adair’s sakes.

This is new news. The news you DIDN’T post was that the 9th doctor, Eccleston, quit after only one season, making him the shortest-tenured of the BBCTV-broadcast Doctors. (Colin Baker lasted two seasons, Sylvester McCoy did two-and-a-half, and the other guy did the pilot for Fox and a few of the BBC Radio voice-overs [which is considered 'canon', so yes, the Doctor has human DNA --although from the online novels {also 'canon'} we know that the Doctor is the descendant of one of the Holy Trinity of the Ancient Times; Rassilon, Omega, and the Stranger].)
