Stacey Frankle brought over her Gateway becuase it was refusing to play DVDs. I deleted and reinstalled the the software, and it seemed to be playing fine. But
\nwhen I plugged in some speakers to check the sound, got the most hideous staticky sound imagineable. Checked the speakers by hooking them up to my Mac: sounded
\nfine. Attached another set of speakers to her machine: sounded crappy. Switched PCI slots between sound card and ethernet card (which required reinstalling
\ndrivers becuase WinME is too stupid to realize that nothing has been added, just swapped): still same awful sound. Her mom came online while working on it;
\ntried to convince her Stacey needed a Mac. Instead, she’s going to have to upgrade to XP (normally I wouldn’t use the term upgrade in describing a move to XP,
\nbut a poke in the eye with a pointed stick is better than WinME) and possibly replace her sound card.<\/p>\n
She takes it back, set it up in her room, and the DVD player freaks out again, but the sound is working. Ugh.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
