Mentioned to Mary Morrison that I was understudying Papageno this summer, and that while I did not wish ill for the guy I’m understudying, I did hope that he
might get a better offer that would let me have the opportunity to perform. Got this email from her today:

Do you know the name of the guy who God is going to provide
with a better gig? I think it helps to be specific in prayer.
Currently God’s getting a rather vague request. “let the
guy Joe is understudying this summer get a better gig” But
he is getting it daily.

but I’ve finally gotten the DVD of the Mikado almost completed. Only thing left is to add the opening credits over the overture (heh), and can then start
duping. Only problem is that in iDVD, the recording rate is set, not VBR, so it has to be on two DVDs. Unless someone knows where I can use a copy of DVD
Studio Pro….

Thus spoke Ryan Schuette last night for no apparent reason.

I spent 4 hideous hours this morning in traffic court. No coffee beforehand, no reading during, and only sporadic opportunities to log on to check email or
IM…the only distraction allowed from listening to the guy sitting behind me who kept grunting in pain from some maladay. I was in court to address a ticket I
received January 6 for going 30 in a 20 school zone. I thought it was normal speed because both Fort Bend and Spring Branch were having inservice days that day,
and I assumed HISD was, too. They weren’t. I got deferred adjudication, which means I have to be good for three months.

This was a night of several memorable/odd/bizarre utterances. The above was by Bill Hobby after our racquetball match; I mentioned I would probably end up
stationed somewhere like Botswana, and then he related a story about when he told Malcolm Gillis he was going to Botswana, and Gillis, in his inimitable fashion,
warned him that Botswana had the highest HIV infection rate in the world. Hobby assured him that he would not be placing himself at risk.

Cafe Red Onion rocks. A party of 20 showed up right before our party of 12. When we waited, the owner was so
happy he gave us all drinks on the house. And the food was excellent. I shall be returning. Then we went back to Shari’s and at wonderous baked goods courtesy
of Laura, as well as California brittle and vanilla merengue cookies. Waaaaaay too much food, but it was consumed in good company. Emily’s will be shipped in
tupperware tomorrow.

Lauren has Jane-Eyreitude.

I cannot for the life of me recall what I was going to quote Alexis on. It is to be hoped that when she sends me the link to her stuff, she will be able to
refresh my failing memory.

And Jonathan owes me something creative because “Yes” is on e.
