Month: July 2004
First day in the UK: Landed, toured Penshurst Place (home of Sir Philip Bleedin’ Sidney) and Gardens, came to Chelmsford, rehearsed in Chelmsford Cathedral, dined at hotel, wandered around town with Camille, Paige, and Jeff. Pics up tomorrow…too zonked now.
Also, Stinky Pinkies delayed until I get home.
There is a world of difference in Spain’s withdrawal of her troops from Iraq, which was based on principle and done in accordance with a campaign pledge, and the Philippines’, which was done under threat from terrorists to behead a hostage. Now that they have acquiesced to this group’s demands, how long will it take for other groups to follow that lead? The Philippines have been fighting a Muslim insurgency in their southern islands for many years; will the government withdraw troops from their own territory now because of new threats? IHow many innocent Filipinos are going to be kidnapped and killed because the terrorists have seen that this is now an effective method with dealing with that government?

Though I’m not on stage this year, I urge you to go see the Houston Gilbert & Sullivan Society‘s production of the Mikado, playing July 16 through 25 at the Wortham. Many of my friends are in it, and it is going to truly be a wonderful show. I’ll be there opening night, so hope to see you there!
