In attempting to remove some of the over *500* spam comments I received last night, I accidentally deleted a whole slew of good comments.
Will be switching comments off for the time being, then moving to a new method of posting that will not be as susceptible to the spambots..
Spam comments?
1) yes; there are spambots (machines that have been infected with malware…one guess which platform) that post bogus comments on public blogs with urls to sites they promote. When the attacked site gets indexed by the search engines, it sees the urls and increases the ranking of the linked-to site.
2) apparently I haven’t turned off comments, just anonymous comments…we’ll see if that is enough.
