Friday night was loud. We got very concerned in the middle of the night when the winds shifted as the eye passed and we thought we might get the front windows blown in; luckily they held (though next time we will board up). Saturday morning damage assessment found a hole about 2″ in diameter in the roof, water blown under the front door, and a bunch of limbs in both yards, but other than that we got out pretty much unscathed. No power or water, but I fired up the generator and made coffee, and was happy. The were a number of trees down in Briargrove, a few which did some substantial damage to the homes, but overall the area got off light. Took the reciprocating saw and the batteries I luckily remembered to charge before the storm and cleared a tree blocking the street in the neighborhood. We went over to my folks’ condo, and found that the big window in the dining room was gone, and the balcony doors in the bedroom had been blown open, but with power and water. The crew at the condo had lashed the doors together and mopped up as best they could, and Anne and I spent a while there getting up the rest of the water and then got with Scottie from the staff and put up a couple of sheets of plywood to close the hole in the dining room. Next drove by the church, and everything seemed fine except for a couple of insulation panels had blown off the ice unit. Buell Court got off pretty light, my tenants only suffering some water blown under the windows. A big tree branch was blocking Bomar, but after some cutting up of the smaller branches, Alex Garcia and I got one lane cleared. A neighbor brought us Puerto Rican lemons(?!). Went back home to meet David and Lauren and and found the generator had stopped, and could not restart it, even after changing the oil. Went back to the condo for the night. David and Lauren were going to come, but they had power when they got home. The Saldivars were without power, so they came over and crashed with us.

Saturday night brought more rain and I could have sworn I heard some hail. Areas that we drove through on Saturday were underwater Sunday. Gil is going back to his house to check on things, and we are going to church in a bit, then back to the house to check on the pets (the neighbors are watching them) and to see if power is back.
